Each 17.75” circular macro wing is created with layered acrylic paint, crushed minerals and protective high-gloss resin. Surface is custom fabricated laser cut wood with frame.

The butterfly wing structure is formed from photonic crystals that give the shimmering iridescent effect. Photonic crystals only reflect specific colors or certain wavelengths of light, which give butterflies their unique coloration. I am inspired by the wonders of nature while also viewing through the lens of biomimicry.
