Welcome To Atlanta
Welcome To Atlanta
Digital collage, acrylic, ink, gold leaf and resin on wood panel. Framed in black.
This series was originally inspired by the documentary 'The Art of Organized Noize'. The movie goes deep into the dirty south music scene and the come-up story of local hip hop groups struggling to make it to the top. I loved their stories about the layers of grit and texture of Atlanta and how it influenced their sound. The current day interviews show them wearing designer and diamonds but they reminisce about the days when the hunger for success drove them. The 2024 Super Bowl halftime showcased more legendary come-ups from Atlanta like Usher and Jermaine Dupri that celebrate new and old Atlanta flavor.
Everyone has a story and the 'born rich' one is extremely boring. The layers that make up our life is what gives us depth and makes us who we are. This piece incorporates the grit and grime of the past but the tux clad man (tiger) symbolizes wealth and success. "Tiger is the supreme master of his domain, a preeminent symbol to be bold, and fierce in all you do"
